REMEDIAL
180 BANK ST, SOUTH MELBOURNE
SBM took the opportunity to carry out the asphalt works for this 3000sqm South Melbourne carpark space. Full carpark design and asphalting, asphalt crack repairs, resurfacing, and pothole repairs have been completed to achieve the desired results.
Steps carried out by SBM included:
1. Assessment: The first step is to assess the extent and nature of the existing damages. This included cracks, potholes, depressions, and surface deterioration.
2. Preparation: Cleaning the surface to remove debris, vegetation, and loose materials. Cracks needed to be chased out and cleaned to ensure proper adhesion of repair materials and longevity of the repairs.
3. Repair methods used by SBM:
· Crack sealing/filling: Small cracks were filled with a hot rubberised asphalt sealant to prevent moisture infiltration and further deterioration. This will help extend the lifespan of the asphalt surface.
· Pothole patching: Potholes were filled with hot asphalt mix or cold patch material, depending on the severity and size of the pothole. The patch material was compacted and levelled to match the surrounding surface.
· Surface patching: Areas of surface deterioration or depressions were filled with hot asphalt mix and compacted to restore the smoothness and integrity of the surface.
4. Compaction: Compaction was a critical step in this asphalt repair to ensure proper bonding and longevity of the repair. Specialised equipment such as rollers or compactors were used to compact the repair material and achieve the desired density.
5. Sealcoating: Sealcoating is a protective layer applied to the surface of the asphalt to help shield it from the damaging effects of sunlight, water, and chemicals. It helps prolong the life of the asphalt surface and enhance its appearance.
6. Traffic control: During the repair, traffic control measures were implemented to ensure the safety of workers and public. This included signage and barricades.
